Kossacks: Let's REALLY support the troops

Tue Jan 10, 2006 at 12:05:40 AM PDT

(Note: The title is in no way intended to imply that we don't already support the troops.  It is, rather, aimed at our favorite yellow-ribbon-bearing chickenhawks.)

I realize that many of us are currently spending our available activist time opposing ScAlito -- as well we should.  But I just read Cindy Sheehan's Diary and it brought me to tears.

What say those of us who can, send care packages to the troops and share any responses we receive with the Kos community?  If you look at any of the websites listed in the diary (www.anysoldier.com, www.give2thetroops.org, or www.treatanysoldier.com), you'll see that many of our soldiers are longing for simple things like feminine hygiene products, shampoo, and any microwaveable food.  I'm stocking up at the grocery store tomorrow and sending a package, new postage rates be damned.

Let's show the country that progressives are the real patriots.  Who's with me?

Fun Republican fracturing over 2008 nomination

Wed Dec 28, 2005 at 03:19:40 AM PDT

There's actually something inspiring to be seen over at RedState.  As we know, they're all at each others' throats even more than we are about 2008 candidates, but someone has the ignorance to suggest that JEAN SCHMIDT be the Republican nominee:

"No, Jean Schmidt for Prez

 (snip)

I could not and will not support Mr. Romney. Go Jean Schmidt."

Aside from this great tidbit, it's refreshing to see how many of them vow to stay home if McCain or Giuliani (or anyone remotely pro-choice) is the nominee.  Here's hoping we can chisel these cracks into chasms before 2008.
